That Time of Year

Two-thirds of college students comfortable returning to campus for fall semester: Survey | Fox Business

College students in a lecture

School has begun. Classes have started and the free time of summer has completely gone out the window. It sure doesn't feel like it though, with ninety degree weather that is made very clear walking between classes and opening your car door leaving school. But then again everyone seems like they are quickly getting back in the habit of it again. We're not fully back into it yet though, at least for me. The real homework and projects have not begun yet and we've only had one hockey practice so far. Once that begins, then I'll feel like the school year has actually started.

I can't really compare this year to anything else though. Obviously, covid made it a completely different year last year. I only had one in-person class during the first semester and that didn't even last the whole semester, as we moved online. Still, what I got to experience I wouldn't even call college. There was no one in the hallways, I didn't know anyone in the class, and the campus overall just felt dead.

This year already has a way different feel. From the campus buzz, to actually having classes in-person, just makes it the complete opposite of last year. It almost gives off a high school vibe, at least to me. I know people in almost all of my classes and every time I walk around campus, it seems like I always know at least one person, whether from athletics or just someone I previously knew. It makes me feel pretty at home.

I just can't wait to see how the rest of the year goes.

  1. Hey Luke! The start of the school year definitely came quick, and I agree, it doesn't feel like we really started yet. The heat is so bad! I can't wait for it to cool down. I also only had one in person class last year and COVID made it hard to meet people because there was no one on campus. I literally said to my friends, "walking in these halls feels like high school all over again." It's good that you know people wherever you go and that homey feeling will come in handy when things get hard.
